Optimal health isn’t always inherited. Most often, it’s a process developed over time unique to the
complexities of the individual. Our bodies are constantly responding to a stream of lifestyle inputs from
family history, age, and stress factors to environmental exposures and underlying health conditions. It’s
no great secret food choices and nutrition greatly influence our health and well-being. However, it’s
almost always difficult to navigate that process alone.
Personally, I struggled with my diet for years. Raised on a menu of processed fast foods marketed to
working parents for convenience, I continued those eating habits well into my adulthood. But, it
worked! Until…it didn’t. It wasn’t until later in life I began to experience a general feeling of unwellness.
No other way to describe it. I wasn’t diagnosed with any ailment. No underlying health conditions. No
weight problems. Yet, I was struggling with intermittent symptoms of unexplainable fatigue and sinus
pressure, restless sleep, brain fog, stomach cramping, and the sense of awakening most mornings on a
full stomach. Clinically, I wasn’t sick, but I certainly didn’t feel well. I could only question: Was it my diet?
I realized very quickly, I was on my own. Through lots of trial and error, elimination diets, and frustration
with all the conflicting nutritional information out there, I made the career altering decision to embark
on an academic journey into wellness. I thought if I could understand the way the body works, I could
make more informed nutritional and lifestyle choices, which would better serve me. It was this personal
quest of understanding and study, which led to a Masters of Science in Nutrition and Integrative Health.
Now, my passion is to share my knowledge and counsel to help you on your journey to wellness.
